Cranston is a city in Providence County, Rhode Island. With a population of 80,529 at the time of the 2010 Census, it is the third largest city in the state. Cranston is a part of the Providence Metropolitan area.
The Town of Cranston was created in 1754 from a portion of Providence north of the Pawtuxet River. After losing much of its territory to neighboring towns and the city of Providence, Cranston itself became a city on 10 March 1910.
There are many neighborhoods and villages throughout the city of Cranston. Cranston is a great central location throughout RI-with great highway access to points of 295 north and south along with 95 north and south.
Cranston is also served by Rhode Island Public Transit Authority(RIPTA).
